I'm still out of the country, and will be for several more months.
Please keep me on the mailing list, as I'm interested in what's
happening in the community. When I return, I hope to make it to the
meetings/activities.

Here's some URLs to read if you're interested,

Mesh networking; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_mesh_network

We're looking at using the B.A.T.M.A.N. Advanced protocol which is
explained a bit on http://open-mesh.org/. Of course normal wifi could
connect to this network, a Linux computer with batman-adv module loaded
could further act as a mesh router and view network diagnostics.

Inkscape is a free software vector graphics editor.
http://inkscape.org/ Inkscape-ready means that the material is ready to
be modified by Inkscape which can export a final .pdf for a copy shop to
print.

DynDNS is a popular service run by a local company,
http://www.dyndns.com/ Beyond having a pretty cool DNS service, they're
big supporters of free software

In GIS app, a Mapnik-based (http://mapnik.org/) website and desktop
software that shows a map of the city with the network overlayed on it,
so it can be monitored in realtime. The map data comes from
http://openstreetmap.org/

All of this is a bit technical for new Ubuntu users, don't worry if it
sounds like a lot to take in all at once.
