Have you considered doing the wipe in the old machine using something
like Darik;s boot and nuke: http://dban.sourceforge.net?  The dban
home page tries to lead you to a windows .exe that creates boot and
nuke disks.  If you hunt around you can find the disk images to dd
onto a boot disk from linux.
