Keep in mind Javascript and Java are two completely different things.
Javascript was originally called Livescript when created by Netscape.
It only received its new name when Sun decided to make a deal with
Netscape and get in on the browser game.

Oh, for the good old days.

Javascript is a client-side (read: web browser) scripting language
that is embedded in webpages.  It is reponsible for thing like Gmail,
Google Maps, and just about any other cool Web 2.0ish sort of site.

Java applets are, as you say, evil and ugly, imo.  I am fairly certain
that I did not have running when FF froze up.

But, hey, worth checkin out.
