Not sure exactly how to fix it currently, but I've had similar problems.  One thing is to make sure in your Beryl settings that a backup manager is selected, like Gnome or something.  That way if it crashes, it auto-reverts to Gnome.

After seeing the awesomely cool desktop Kent has, i decided to try
beryl out.  Worked AWESOME till i went to sleep

Now the bloody desktop engine won't load/  Ideas ?  I can't get to much here.
