[ubuntu-us-mn] 10.04 network manager question

Ubuntu friends in MN: I am a former Minneapolitan now in Miss teaching. 
I persuaded my 90 yr old step dad to try Ubuntu and his version of 10.04 
that came with a book lacks network manager (or at least he can't find 
it on his Dell laptop). Anyone inclined to help can reach Neil Clark at
