[ubuntu-us-mn] Annomalous disk nearly full report

On Dec 4th I got error msg (on recently installed Ubunto 10.04 system):
"The volume "Filesystem root" has only 373.2 MB disk space remaining."

I decided to reboot and look around expecting that the /tmp files
would be deleted and free up some space. Instead get an error with
LESS space - some thing like (not copied at the time) :
The volume "Filesystem root" has only 136 MB disk space remaining.

df included:
/dev/sdb2 7689384 7158856 139924 99% /mnt/ub1004

I rebooted again and it did a disk check (just by chance -
it checks every 22 boots(?)) but gave no error messages.
df included:
/dev/sda2 7689384 3409672 3889108 47% /
which is much more like I would expect.

Today 8 days later, the error message returned:
"The volume "Filesystem root" has only 372.6 MB disk space remaining."
df again relected the nearly full disk.
I rebooted and df reported 48% in use.

Any idea what's causing this?

Fred
