I understand that several people had some issues connecting on irc earlier tonight. I was on from about 7:50 pm to 8:25 pm and did not see anyone else. I also had a link to Google hangout video call.
We can try it again this evening in that I am on now or do it at a later date.

Mike and jsuter and I tried the IRC tonight. But I see on the website - http://loco.ubuntu.com/teams/ubuntu-maryland/ that the next IRC chat is Nov 3 

We are skipping the one for October?. 

There is a Google Chrome extension for Hangouts. Did you try that?
