14.04 install hangs at partition type

It sounds like a hardware compatibility issue. Did you review the wiki for supported hardware, https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudio/SupportedHardware
Please provide a list of your hardware to include processor, hard drive, sound card, memory and manufacturer and I will try to research it.
