I can second this. I managed to get my hands on a brand new macbook for a couple of minutes, and I popped a lucid disc in, and it just worked, internet and everything. I'd suggest liveUSB if you can't install another partition. Most of the hardware in the new macs is pretty standard these days, which makes running ubnutu on them pretty much plug-n-play.

On Mon, May 17, 2010 at 8:58 PM, Caroline Meeks <caroline@solutiongrove.com> wrote:

Hi Martin,

Perhaps you could boot off of a live CD?
Hey guys,

The SETC have just replaced all their machines including the machines in
the middle room with very powerful and very expensive iMacs (8GB RAM,
3.33Ghz Core2s with 1TB HD each)

The problem is that none of these machines have Ubuntu on them and we
don't have the technical know how in order to make it all work, so I'm
putting a freeze on the Tuesday sessions and I'm canceling the Wednesday
systems administration class' remaining two sessions.

Hopefully we'll be able to get Ubuntu installed and managed in a way
that isn't a hack job, but at the moment it's looking grim. If anyone
knows how to do advanced systems administration for Mac, Windows and
Ubuntu triple boots and knows their way around servers enough to set up
a proper print and authentication server, get in touch, your time may
well be able to bring manageability back to this network.

For now, I'll be there tomorrow to talk with Mel, but there'll be no
class, support or other things.

Best Regards, Martin Owens
