Daniel I think you are right in your reasoning about the difference between
Linux (refering to the actual software) and the existance of gnu/linux more
as a philosophy, but I giving the fact that is this philosophy is the seed
for every known linux distribution I don't understand what's not to like
about it.

gnu/linux Is a concept born in the idea of freedom for software usage and
all the other linux flavors/distros are no more than that concept
implemented to provide solutions to every need in our society.

So we can say UBUNTU would be the gnu/linux solution for end-users
providing the tools to work on an internet/cloud based world for pc.
