[ubuntu-us-ma] Moving on from FreeNAS to Ubuntu Server

Okay, so recently I finished building a new computer, so this was a great
time for me to get a home server again.

A few weeks ago I learned about FreeNAS and it looked very attractive for
what I needed. I was going to be running it headless so the WebGUI was great
and everything was easy to get started. Then later in the day I tried to
install MySQL and it ruined my entire install. I redownloaded all my files
from my server onto my computer and reinstalled. Then I reinstalled again,
and I ruined my install getting phpMyAdmin to work. That along with the lack
of a compatible SVN server I prefer, I'm deciding that FreeNAS server isn't
really for me.

So, I'm going to install Ubuntu Server before Monday, and I'm wondering if
anyone has any advice, problems you've run into, etc. on my choice of
software. With the WebGUI I didn't need a lot of command-line experience so
I'm a little in the dark getting this all set. I've found this great Wiki
entry and this is where I'm getting a lot of my information:

LAMP: Most likely Apache, PHP, MySQL, phpMyAdmin
Network drive for my Windows machines: Probably going with Samba
SSH: OpenSSH
FTP: proFTP. I hear it's notorious for configuring though?
Time sync: NTP
BitTorrent: Transmission with WebGUI
DynDNS IP updating: ddclient
A/V streaming to Xbox: MediaTomb UPnP
Frontend: Webmin

FreeNAS already uses Transmission, NTP, proFTP, OpenSSH, Samba, and
MediaTomb so I'm a little experienced with them, just not from the
command-line.

Thanks.
