The option was removed from Linux releases because Linux users do not
have permission to install applications/upgrade applications. Only the
administrator does, and in that case they should be using the
repository.

There is some concern that Mozilla have ditched support for Linux
distros because they see it as too hard to build debs, ppas etc. But int
he end it's a waiting game for the next release and the next version of
Firefox.
