Launching Ubuntu from USB Thumb Drives

Have people had much luck installing Ubuntu 7.10 onto thumb drives and
booting off that? I've tried some guides (such as this guide for
7.10<http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2007/09/28/usb-ubuntu-710-gutsy-gibbon-install/>)
but I get boot errors.

I have been able to get these same PCs installed with Ubuntu from the
LiveCD, and I've also been able to boot these PCs off thumb drives installed
with Fedora and DSL.
