Sweet, 15 minutes to download the edubuntu beta is a lot better than the 6
hours left on my current download.

By the way, I just joined the edubuntu-users and edubuntu-devel mailing
lists. I'd like to do some development work on the project since I ran
across a few things that I really wasn't happy about while setting up a
workstation for my friend's special needs students. I haven't tried edubuntu
gutsy yet, so I'm not sure if these are fixed yet or not:

-- In GCompris, the help menus are mostly meaningless, and some games didn't
work according to their own directions.

-- After installation, it installed the basic ubuntu packages, without
GCompris and the rest of the educational games, only the default gnome
games. I was able to use them while running from the live cd, but not after
installation. I couldn't install them from the cd, and that box has no
network card. I had to reboot to the live cd to be able to use them.

-- Compiz was installed automatically, and removing it would be "scary" to
most users. I doubt many edubuntu PCs will be using Compiz. Upon removing
the package, it automatically marks "edubuntu desktop" for removal as well.
The "edubuntu desktop" package is just a package that depends on all the
default apps, but I'll bet that if a new user saw that message they'd
abandon what they were doing for fear of breaking it.

Well, I've probably taken more of your time than needed. I'll voice these
opinions (and others) with the edubuntu teams, and see what I can do to help
them out. I just wish I had started with this a bit before a release. Oh
well, there's always Hardy Heron!

Hope you all have fun at the meeting tonight.
