I am actually running the 32 bit on my machine.
Pretty capable, though is the 64 better or a little problematic at this
point?
Wine looks good in the book, but in reality, it has issues.

Are you running the 64bit version of ubuntu? I haven't successfully
installed wine yet either but I haven't really tried very hard but I
think there might have been some trouble with 64bit and wine.
