Well; I believe i have found a solution, friends, to my KVM-switch
related problem --- though it will cost me some money, i guess most
lessons learned do, in one way or another. I'll very soon be purchasing
from newegg.com - a
<http://www.newegg.com/Store/Brand.aspx?Brand=8783&name=CABLES-TO-GO>

  CABLES TO GO 35555 4-PORT VGA/USB and PS/2 KVM SWITCH with CABLES -
  Retail

which will set me back about ninety bucks.

if anyone knows of someone looking for a

      IOGEAR GCS632U 2-Port USB PLUS KVM Switch - Retail
      <http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817107417>

I'll have one available - for cost of shipping, to wherever from Boston.

The Cables to go unit specifically states on its specs that it is
compatible with MS Win, Apple/Mac & Linux/Sun. The IOGear unit only
promised Win, Mac or Sun-Spark.

    ---------------

As to my other problem; after trying to run Gutsy with Compiz, I for
some reason can no longer access my 2nd, 3rd, or 4th desktop by
workspace switcher. earlier, when i did gain access, to any of them, i
had no taskbars, either at the base of the screen nor at the top. I have
no idea of the cause, except it only started after I started Compiz.
Perhaps I'll have to try to re-install Gutsy; though I am unsure if
that's possible without wiping the hard disc first. I sure don't want to
make matters worse.....
