Hi guys!

Short time lurcher, first time poster. :)

<My $.02> I think there's too much analysis. I have heard many different ways of reference to many different distros (using/trying/supporting most of them myself) and have found it has always been best to refer to the subject by what the intended reader/listener will understand. IMHO, seven point oh four is the same as seven oh four and seven four and
7.04. Same with seven point ten and seven point one oh and seven ten and 7.10. No matter how you write it, type it, or talk it it's the same; *depending on the intended listener/reader*.

For folks who know nothing of Linux and FOSS I have always generalized it; Ubuntu, SuSE, Fedora, etc. For those who know the distros, I would tend to speak in versions;
7.04 or seven four (since I know of no other released versions to the general public and as a good system admin I'm lazy and leave out as much as possible except when typing within in parenthesis and then I tend to write way too much like I'm doing right now :) ).

I don't think the community OR Mr Shuttleworth will flog you for using any derivative of the version you are speaking of that you deemed appropriate at the time. Seems like a personal preference subject to me.
