I agree, I like the circle of friends with the indiana flag inside it quite a bit. It
 
A couple of thoughts, for what they're worth:
 
a) the intense blue center circle feels a little too sharp-bordered, maybe, what if it were more like: http://www.mccsc.edu/~sruiz/Cof-Inflag2.png
 
b) definitely needs text, I see "Ubuntu * Indiana * Community" or "Indiana * Local * Community" or "Local * Community * Team" or something circling the logo in the official Ubuntu font, with the circle of friends' heads punctuating the space between the three words...but then again, I might be hallucinating ;-)

Pawsitive Results created two draft logos for the Indiana LoCo team.
They're available at http://www.cinlug.org/gallery/inloco/

I like the Cof-Inflag one since almost every US state LoCo team has one
similar to the stateoutlineLoCoLogo one but I would add some descriptive
text (like "The Indiana Local Community team") personally.
