That email looked like "<a

spam</a>" (I think that's what it's called). Crawlers piece together
phrases from god knows where so the email looks legit to spam filters.
Was the first one I've seen that was about Linux, though. Crazy...<br>
<br>
I've installed Linux on some Thinkpads and have had mixed results. You
usually have to mess with xorg.conf to enable hardware acceleration,
which doesn't always work with Compiz, and the wireless NICs have had
limited capability. The Thinkpads I've seen have ATI video cards, which
is a bad way to start.<br>
<br>
On another note, I recently got PING (Partimage Is Not Ghost) working
when it had failed me in the past. I was able to create a series of CD
images of an Ubuntu installation, then create a bootable DVD ISO from
them. I then nuked the partition, including the MBR and GRUB, then
booted to the DVD and did a restore. The system was up and running
perfectly, GRUB, swap partition, and all. If you clean up your temp
files, delete Synaptic's cache, and make sure your videos/music/etc. is
on a different partition PING should be able to get it onto one DVD
using bzip2. You can span DVDs if necessary though. If anyone needs the
info just ask.<br>

I'm not as much a linux/Ubuntu newbie as I used to be, but I don't
understand this remark. As a recent Thinkpad purchaser -- used x40, in
which I plan to install Kubuntu -- I'm curious.
Thanks,
