i bought a used laptop at:

http://www.laptopoutlet.com/compaqlaptops.html

It was about 150 and run xubuntu with a linksys wifi card. 5 GB HD
and 128 memory. The HP still runs after 2 yrs of service.

A friend of mine had a compaq laptop and never could get ubuntu to
install. Never know if sometime with or will not work.
