Just a wild stab at it but this might work:

http://www.amazon.com/WIMM-One-Wearable-Android-Device/dp/B0056BIYQA/ref=pd_sbs_watch_2
My apologies that this isn't a ubuntu Q. I need some ideas though.

I've got a child with Downs and he thinks it's funny to escape the
house. I've had strangers find him on the road. I've taken
preventative measures, but he's too smart. A real Houdini.
Yes, there are products out there, but they're expensive and
subscription based. What I'm thinking is this. I need a device,
about the size of a watch, that's wifi enabled. I can embed an app on
it that will send a ping to a device on my local network. That
device, most likely will look like a linksys router with a speaker and
a button. If the receiver looses the signal for any amount of time,
then an alarm will go off. The button is for indicating that we're
leaving the house and not to monitor until the child gets back into
range.

It's the "watch" that I need help with. I know that there are SD
cards that are wifi enabled. Has anyone since something like a watch
that's wifi enabled?

Thanks,
Dave
