Hello Richard,
Welcome to Ubuntu!
One of the places I found most helpful when I was a new user to ubuntu 
was www.ubuntuguide.org, and then eventually I started using 
www.ubuntuforums.org considerably more, and ubuntuguide considerably 
less. However, in case you didn't know about it, try it out, and have fun!
