Sorry to hear about the HDD issue. Hopefully you had them in a RAID
array or something similar. I have found that it is possible to get data
off a dying HDD if you put it in a freezer for about 10 minutes (in a
ziploc bag first) and then do a dd to a known good drive.
dd if=/dev/hdx of=/dev/hdx
[if = dying HDD] [of = good drive]
That should copy all the data and then you can do an fsck on that drive
to sort out any file system issues.
What caused it to fail? Is the system getting proper airflow?
