<p>Hi all,</p>
<p>The Takoma Park Folk Festival (TPFF) and the adjacent Software Freedom Day (SFD) are now "on the radar". (See attached message "below the fold".) They don't actually take place until September, but I like to alert people when I first get wind of it, since registration and the mailing of CDs and swag take time.</p>
<p>However, after 8 years of paying the rent on the community table and getting the CDs, (among other things) I'm leaving those tasks to someone else. </p>
<p>If someone steps up, I'll bring the banners, and remaining flyers, as well as left-over T shirts from SFDs past.</p>
<p>My CD stash is all from the previous LTS release, and I am about to recycle them unless someone wants to claim them. Very soon.</p>
<p>In addition to pleading for a new batch of Ubuntu CDs, and registering for a table, there is the task of keeping an eye open for the official opening of SFD 2014 registration and making the SFD swag request once registration opens. Sadly, SFD swag the last two years has arrived late. If we're doing this, I'll try to push the organizers to send out earlier this year, do that the tabling team can wear THIS year's T shirts.</p>
<p>Also it's meant to be Software Freedom Day, not Ubuntu Day. While we certainly have a bias towards Ubuntu and will continue to do so -- being an Ubuntu list, after all -- other distros, as well as React OS, Haiku, FreeBSD, and collections of FOSS applications that run on the unmentionable OSes are more than welcome. The SFD folks push the Open Disc, and usually include one or two in the swag. Unfortunately, not really enough to hand out. So, if you have "sources" (pun intended) hit them up for materials or burn your own. (I burned a bunch of Live Sugar CDs and Live Trisquel Linux CDs one year.)</p>
<p>I'm also going to forward the announcement to HacDC, as I convinced them to get a table next to ours a few years ago. With the recent ramping up of Maker Faires in the area, they may want to put in an appearance again. Maybe Fab Lab DC as well. T'would be nice to all cluster close.</p>
<p>Other things to think about, if we're doing this: </p>
<p>* Canopy. The broken tent works in a pinch but is harder to set up and take down, and breaks a little further with each attempt.<br>
* Non-flammable power sources (batteries, non-fuel-based electricity generators, solar panels).<br>
* Clever ways to keep paper from blowing away, while remaining easy for folks to grab.<br>
* Clever ways to attach banners (though we usually manage okay).<br>
* Cool demos?<br>

have contacted us recently about the 2014 Takoma Park Folk Festival and
expressed interest in again having a Community Table. This note is a short
update on our activities. </span></font></div>

<div><font face="Arial"><span>First, we are
pleased to say that the festival will be on Sunday, September 7, and we will
again welcome nonprofits that wish to participate as Community Tables. We
don't have any plans to change the setup for Tables, nor the fees
($40/$55). All aspects of Tables will be basically the same as last
year. When the registration form is ready, we'll send you another email,
as well as post information on our Facebook page, website, Twitter,
etc.</span></font></div>

<div><font face="Arial"><span>The one change we
are installing is to accept both</span></font><font face="Arial"><span> registration AND payments online this year.
We are now able to take payments through PayPal and Square, but we need to
create an online form that is easy to use. This will take a few more weeks,
and that's been the delay in starting registrations.</span></font></div>

<div><font face="Arial"><span>One more
thing. We've had 50-60 Community Tables in each of the last few
years. We can accommodate about 100 Tables participants. So please
tell your friends that their organizations also should apply for a
table. If they send a note to <a href="mailto:tables@tpff.org" target="_blank">tables@tpff.org</a>, we will put them on our
email list for an announcement when registration begins.
