The problem is still DirectX though, in recent years it has leapfrogged
OpenGL in ease of use and features. While it's certainly possible to create
a OpenGL renderer for most games, most companies won't do it just to get
the limited OSX and Linux user base. Since most modern PC games are ports
of the Xbox 360 version (which runs a DirectX 9 renderer by default), it's
hard to get developers to support anything that is significantly different
from that standard. Only the really high end AAA devs, like Valve ,
Blizzard, Epic, and iD bother to support other configurations, alongside
small indie titles who need to support Linux to get into the Humble Bundle.
