Fellow geeks,
My friend Alice Sims, who runs the organization Art for the
People, and her talented computer friend Luke Vawter, are putting on
some free trainings on using GIMP - the Graphics Image Manipulation
Program, in the Takoma Park Computer Center. Sorry for the short
notice, but these trainings are taking place on Thurs evening of this
week (7 pm to 8 pm) and on Saturday afternoon (noon to 1 pm) in Room A
of the Takoma Park Computer Center, 7500 Maple Ave, Takoma Park, Maryland.
see flyer at http://www.his.com/~pshapiro/Gimp.course.flyer.jpg
GIMP is free software that runs on Linux, Macintosh and Windows
computer. It can do a lot of what Photoshop does. You can create
flyers with GIMP, create graphics for presentations, create graphics
for videos and do a bunch of fun graphics manipulations in GIMP. The
original Google logo was created in GIMP.
This week's trainings are pilots for more extended free GIMP
trainings that will be taking place this fall in our computer center.
The trainings are best suited for middle school students on up
through adults -- although elementary school students are quite
welcome to attend.
Thanks for sharing info about the above with anyone you know
who might be interested in this. I'll be attending these trainings
myself, too.

If someone can forward this email to the TakomaPAKK email list (and
other local lists), that would be great.
