I'm glad you found the open source drivers and that they're working
well for you. Those drivers should be even better in 11.10 as it's
being actively worked on in Linux 2.6.39 and the newer Mesa.
It is still possible to browse the menus in Unity. Just click More
Apps and expand. You can even narrow the list down using the drop-down
category list. I'm sure the category interface will look a bit better
in 11.10 as it looks out of place now.
Honestly, I wouldn't say that 11.04 is all the way there for those new
to Ubuntu but it actually does quite well and I'm sure it will be even
better in the next release gearing up for LTS.
