[DC LoCo] how to determine distribution

I tried all three of these approaches to no avail.  I have determined that rpm and yum are installed (I installed nano via yum).  So, I know that has Red-Hat-like package management.  Out of curiosity, does anyone know how to determine which distribution it is?
