Possibly Nautilus needs to be managing the root window for them to work?

You'd have to get rid of OpenBox.  Compiz Fusion and OpenBox both serve the 
same purpose, so you can only use one at a time.

Any idea how it differs from Lubuntu, which is also LXDE+OpenBox?
