True, your processor must support "long mode".

grep " lm " /proc/cpuinfo

will find the cpuflag "lm" which is only present on 64-bit-ready hardware.

Flash isn't the only 32-bit-only closed-source codec out there either, but you can run 32-bit flash on a 64-bit system.
