Hey Thomas, long time no see.

You might want to poke around in the Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD) and its
cousin, the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows (UBCD4Win), which, if I
recall correctly, have Linux tools for ripping apart Windows problems.

I haven't used them in a while, but I know one or the other has helped
out in a jam. Kind of a mess of programs of varying quality,
user-friendliness, etc.  But handy to keep in your backpack.
