[DC LoCo] Lame and timid question

I am currently running, and very happy with, Verizon DSL (a Westell 2200
modem) and Ubuntu 9.04. I "may" have to move back to rural Texas and
revert to dial up. I have my last 56K Sportster Modem (which did work on
a Red Hat box), so "should" there be any conflict if I just download the
gnome-ppp but do NOT run through the set-up yet?

I found an outfit called basicisp.net that states on their home page:

"100% Windows, Vista, Mac, Linux, WebTV compatible"

as well as

"No Proprietary Software"
