Interesting read.  Ubuntu has really helped GNU/Linux penetrate the
desktop market.  Apple users have always been fairly tech-savvy, but
still relied on Apple to do the powerlifting behind the GUI.  If that
class of users finds Ubuntu's Gnome desktop and install CD a palatable
alternative, then healthy progress has been made in removing the main
impediment to greater Linux market share (hard to install/configure).
