I'm not sure it's worth getting in a huff over.<div><br></div><div>1) You can remove them if you don't want them.</div><div>2) They're not ads ( classic poor summary by Slashdot editors ), they're suggestions for things that they predict you would want to purchase through the dash. For example, I search for "Simon and Garfunkel" and realize I don't in fact own the song I was hoping I could - rather than show me absolutely nothing, the dash now provides me with a solid solution.</div>
<div>3) The goal of the dash is to be able to show you anything and everything - i.e. a one stop place to search for anything ( whether it be local or on the web ). Because they're sending these searches through a proxy hosted by canonical, they remain both anonymous and, ultimately, more powerful.</div>
<div><br>Mark Shuttleworth's explanation is pretty good as well - </div><div><a href="http://www.markshuttleworth.com/archives/1182">http://www.markshuttleworth.com/archives/1182</a></div><div><br></div><div>Cheers,</div>
