you could try installing cheese to test these webcams. At least one of those three webcams should work fine. the command line installation is "sudo apt-get install cheese" or search for it in synaptic or the Ubuntu Software Center.
I am using Skype v2.1.0.81 on my Starling, and it works perfectly. The netbook uses a Suyin Webcam.
Hi,

I am running Ubuntu 8.04 and I'm using Skype ok with a Logitech
webcam. I remember that a few months ago after upgrading Skype to
2.1.0.47 whenever I started the video during a call Skype was quitting
on me. Downgrading to Skype to 2.0.0.72 brought everything back to
normal. Maybe try to downgrade to this Skype release and see if it
works. Hope this helps!
