I heard reports of symptoms like that on ubuntu forums. It does boot into that kernel and then, no surprise, X won't start as it can't parse the config file.  It doesn't like the RgbPath directive. I comment that out and get X started.  Mindful of all the discussion that had gone on about how much trouble X was to get sorted, I was a bit apprehensive. Turns out that it wasn't a big deal, mainly because I'm using the nvidia X server. Running through the config after restarting X to use that server got everything straightened out. I am curious, however, about that initial pause. Anyone else experienced anything like that? Any hints on what I might google for to find out more info or what I can set to see boot details instead of just an nice orange progress bar? Thanks.
