Michael, what are you talking about? Screen resolution can be changed (system> preferences> screen resolution>) and still work, and have not been removed. Maybe you are complaining about how the way <a href="http://x.org">x.org</a> configures itself now, or maybe even something that changed in wubi. I'm not sure, but in the "normal" ubuntu install version not much has changed. Sure some graphics cards are not recognized that well, but hey that's not the fault of the open source community. They are doing their best.<br>
<br>@don, maybe trying an xubuntu live-cd (if there is one), or trying an older live-cd to try and find one that recoginses the display correctly. Then once you find one that is able to recognise it ok, then just copy the live-cd's xorg .conf file over the installed one.<br>

</div>The whole point of Ubuntu was that people shouldn't have to do that in<br>
order to get the OS to work. Demand that manual changing of monitor<br>
settings be designed back into the Screen Resolution dialog and<br>
problem is fixed. Why that feature was removed I have no idea but<br>
whoever made the decision was an idiot.<br>
