GNOME 3 is and will be supported by Ubuntu it just won't run nicely with
Unity at this point

And yes you can get GNOME 3 for Ubuntu right now but it is from a very
unstable (yet official) PPA...But be warned it might break your install (as
it did to one of mine) http://j.mp/fOLGky
