Interesting
Note: these are my own views, not those of my employer.... I'm just
sub'd to the list with this email address....

Hmm, said another way this is "let's find an existing team that's
great and try to steal them away and break their defining point."
The focus here is on taking something away from Ubuntu, not on how we
can improve the overall footprint and market share of Linux.
Ubuntu was built, it was successful, and people came. These guys
should do the same and not try to pilfer.

The Ubuntu LoCo teams are Ubuntu LoCo teams, not Canonical LoCo teams
so this perspective is flawed.

Yeah, we call these LUGs today and the Colorado LoCo inter-operates
with all the local ones providing them additional resources.
If were to use his logic but for Ubuntu's gain we would say LUGs
should disband and join the Ubuntu LoCo team because we're the biggest
and most effective distro. It's horrible. We need LUGs and we need
Ubuntu LoCos.

As above. It sounds like this guy is jealous of Ubuntu's success.

They do already and you can see this on their website.
> Being a LoCo does in many ways lock you in to promoting Ubuntu.
Well, duh. That's the whole point! We're proud of Ubuntu and want to
promote it. We use it too. If the case arises where something else,
like CentOS, is better, we'd suggest that. In fact, we have! The
Boulder D-STAR repeater is running CentOS, not Ubuntu. And we have
some fun things that Tummy up in Loveland has built...etc...

What's wrong with LUGs? They predate Ubuntu and Ubuntu LoCo teams and
do fabulous work!
I don't know, maybe it's me but I find these arguments completely off
base. Just my opinion though.
