[CoLoCo] Looking for a network monitor applet

Maybe the Ubuntu developers can help you more, but I believe that Network Monitor actually sends a message across DBus when a new network becomes available via the WiFi.  You should be able to write something in Ruby or Python, both languages have impressive DBus support.

I was hoping for something client-side that did it through sniffing. I
could view things through the router but I prefer to have something
client-side that works on multiple networks. Besides, with the current
state of wireless security I don't really trust routers ; ).
