Here are two LPI books we could choose from:
http://www.amazon.com/LPIC-1-Linux-Professional-Institute-Certification/dp/0470404833/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1233196293&sr=1-2
http://softpro.stores.yahoo.net/0-596-00528-8.html
And here are two Ubuntu books.
http://www.amazon.com/Ubuntu-Certified-Professional-Study-Guide/dp/0071591109/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
http://softpro.stores.yahoo.net/0-13-713668-4.html
The Ubuntu Certified Pro book seems like a more direct map to the need, but I've been very disappointed with Michael Jang's RHCE book.

Happy note: The first two exams are distro-agnostic. See here: http://www.ubuntu.com/training/certificationcourses

I agree. And I'm personally more interested in Ubuntu anyways. :-)

Speaking strictly for myself, I already have the Linux+, so I would be interested in a curriculum that leads to Ubuntu Certified Professional, and coincidentally it seems more list-appropriate.

Well - first of all.. is the Ubuntu cert the best one to get? Or would a Linux+ type cert be better?

Love to join you. Linux for 10 years. Ubuntu for 2+ years. Is there a self-study book for the Ubuntu cert?

I'd be interested in participating in a study group. I also have a year of Ubuntu/Linux Mint under my belt and have considered formal learning and certification. I am in Boulder. Feel free to drop me an email.
Cheers,
Nena
