I have owned several Dell laptops, a Gateway laptop, and a couple of
ThinkPads. The Gateway has had some issues here and there over the years
with Linux but works pretty well in general. The Dells have had some issues
with graphics cards depending on the Linux distro. The ThinkPads have been
great and have been well supported in Linux. I personally like the clunky
appearance, but more importantly, I like that they are durable, and the
keyboard feels really nice and responsive. My vote is for Lenovo.
Currently, the X60 is my workhorse; it's light, small, it is is really
portable, and it's got a built-in LED light that illuminates the keyboard
when typing in the dark.
