I'm something of an anarchist by nature. I personally hate the download
music business in all forms. The Internet is like the old west. It's wild,
dangerous and full of opportunity. Anyone trying to limit that opportunity
is just a buzz-kill. I have nothing against artist getting paid for what
they do but they don't get paid much - the labels are making the money.
Artist should take control of their work and distribute MP3s for free and
then package high quality audio on feature packed discs (or downloadable iso
or something) for sale. Thanks in part to all this MP3 crap DVD-Audio and
SACD have more or less died. Maybe Blu-Ray audio in on the horizon but
doesn't anyone care about quality anymore? I don't buy CDs anymore. Not
because I download everything for free but because they are overpriced,
featureless, and usually bad music. I was buying SACDs and DVD-Audio but
they have once again lost me as a customer. RIAA needs to wake up and stop
peddling crud and realize that is as much a reason for poor sales as
downloading. NIN got it right. I hope we see more of that in the near
future.</rant>
