I have been trying to get Kmail/Kontact to work with gmail and I have
googled quite a bit but haven't been able to find a solution. POP
(incoming) mail works fine, but nothing ever leaves the outbox.
Unfortunately, Kmail doesn't provide me with any error messages. Here
are the settings I'm using for my outgoing mail:
host: smtp.gmail.com
port: 25 also tried 465 and 587 as google suggests
precommand: none
server requires authentication? check
login: 2600denver at gmail.com
password: my password (which is correct)
send custom hostname to server? unchecked (what does this do anyways?)
Under the security tab I selected:
TLS for the Encryption
and PLAIN for the authentication method
Under the kmail sending tab there is an option and I don't know what
it does. It is Default Domain and it automatically put my computer's
name in there (oem-laptop). I also tried making this gmail.com to no
avail.
Any ideas? Has anybody actually gotten SMTP and Gmail to work? I have
spent like 8 hours getting all of my email imported and sorted into
kmail, and this is really bumming me out. Any ideas? Also, my ISP is
comcast.
The funny thing is that it was working earlier today and I made no
changes to the settings (as far as I can tell) and now it doesn't
work. The only thing I did was enable PGP encryption using GNUPG and
the automatic signing of messages. Could that be it?
Any help is appreciated, I'm really frustrated with this
Thanks
