Our school district is planning to do this too. Once they do I could give
you some feedback but it might not be until the fall. However, given that
they are willing to do this suggests there are some benefits that are
greater than the work involved to switch. That would lead me to believe it's
not a huge pain. However, anything related to exchange seems to be at least
a bit of pain.

Btw, I also have google apps for my domain. I don't use it much but it works
fine.
