A KVM allows you to use the same keyboard, video, mouse on more than
one system, right? If so, I have an alternative solution that is
working for me (I don't have a KVM switch). My monitor has both a DVI
and VGA input. I connected my desktop to the DVI and my laptop to the
VGA. I have a wireless keyboard/mouse with a little USB dongle
receiver. When I want to use the laptop I just swap the USB receiver
and hit the source switch on the monitor and I'm there. If you switch
back and forth a lot this could be annoying, but otherwise it works
well.
