[CoLoCo] Ubuntu on an external drive - testers needed

Well,
the school computers i want to use this on might have a mobo 3 or 4 years
old, but they certainly have some sort of USB booting. Beause if you havre a
flash stick plugged in, it gives an error that "this device is not bootable"
and says to remove it and press a key. (the kind of error you used to see
for non bootable floppies)
I think the reason they all are set to USB boot first, is because our school
administrator has an external drive in which he either boots xp from or Mac
osx (if osx works on PC's) for configuring. So, I know they are capable of
booting at least the MBR or maybe bootcamp.
there are some blue PC's which are only 2 years old at most. better chances
with those?
...also, how long is a typical install? an hour or so?
