My sense is that coloco is too small a community to support regular,
meaningful discussions on news articles, along with the sort of
moderation and spam patrolling that Slashdot offers.

I'd suggest posting topics on the Ubuntu forums for that sort of
thing, or to Slashdot, Digg etc.
