[CoLoCo] Ubuntu causing problems with hard drives

Okay, you have to do
sudo smartctl --all /dev/sda
and then you get the output. It seems that desktop drives don have a
load cycle count but on my laptop it 69773 and I don't use this
computer THAT often - 982 hours for power on it says. That works out
to 71 cycles an hour or about 1 every minute. However, on its own,
this data means nothing. Is there anything to compare this to? Is this
usage high or average? What sort of numbers do other OSs have?
Interesting topic though.
