[CoLoCo] need good wireless card with external antenna

If you are super concerned with WPA or what-not then the card is not for
you.

I find that most people still shy away from it. In fact it used to kill
performance on a lot of the crappy Linksys/Netgear routers out there.

But that was in fact not the card I was referring to; It is however a good
card if you don't want the external antenna options.

This is what I would recommend:

Magnetic antenna for the roof of your vehicle

like (discontinued for some new model)

Cisco 350 Series PCMCIA Card (has primary and secondary ports for antennas).

:-) I have the card. Probably can gnab it off me for . $15?

These bad-boys used to retail for a pretty penny. They are nicely compatible
with Linux and airsnort/kismet and their runoffs.

Thanks Mitch,

Would this be the little bugger you are referring to?

Seems a bit out dated with only WEP support. Also, they don't have any. How
cheap is the one you have? Is the antenna required or will it work without
one and better with one?

Thanks.

It's a flat antenna that can Velcro to the lid of your laptop. Its an
omni-directional antenna and works pretty good.

I might possibly have a 350 Card you can grab for cheap; but the blade
antenna may be harder to find.

My old company keeps them in-stock if you cant find them online; you can get
their number off of www.kci.net <http://www.kci.net/> and maybe they'll
ship you one.

Anyone know of a good card that works with ubuntu (without having to use the
wrapper thing)? I want something that has a much better range than the
internal card (like something for wardriving but that's not what I plan to
do). A pcmcia card would be good but I'd like to be able to use an
unattached antenna - maybe something that would clip on the laptop lid and I
can rotate it to get the best signal. Does such a thing exist? I've looked
through newegg, tigerdirect and best buy without luck.

Thanks.

PS Leon, what was the site you suggested? I can't remember.
